The Villalobos family estate is located close to Ranguili villageColchagua Valley appellation of origin. Colchagua Costa is a region close to the Pacific Ocean, internationally recognized for its dry summer days and refreshing nights. The vineyard is essentially Carignan variety, and it was planted during the 1940’s and 50’s.

Villalobos vines have never been treated in the production process; indeed, the vines have always grown free with any chemical processes for sixty years amongst native chilean flora such as: maitenes, rosehip, culenes, pine trees, blackberry bushes etc.


Fermented spontaneously using native yeast in stainless-steel tanks. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation at spring temperatures in stainless-steel tanks.Unfiltered, unfined.Unpressed.Settled by gravity.

Tasting notes

Muddled cherries, vibrant green peppercorns, and decadent chocolate unite in this audacious wine blend. It’s a symphony of lush fruity notes harmoniously intertwined with herbal undertones, culminating in a pleasantly bitter conclusion.

Joe’s Judgements

Carmenere is one of my favourite grape varieties due to its rich dark fruit and savoury herbaceous qualities. This wine in particular is no different, a real belter with a unique and complex flavour profile, as expected from this variety.

The winery is notable too, a wild and untamed place where the flora is allowed to run wild, and the vines have no human intervention. The result is a wine that captures the essence of the Colchagua Valley, with ripe fruit flavours such as plum, cassis and cherry, hints of spice, and deep, dark colour. Wonderful green bell pepper and rosemary on the nose, with a slight touch of cocoa and earthy minerality. The wine starts with a typical ‘Natural wine’ tang, but with some aeration calms down and you can taste the concentration of fruit.

Bold and intense, Villalobo Carmenere is a wine that delivers far above its price point.
