St Michael Eppan – Alto Adige Pinot Noir

Appearance

• A bright garnet red with lighter highlights.

Nose

• On the nose this wine is subtle and bright with notes of ripe red berries, cherry and alpine strawberry.

Taste

• The palate is soft and elegant with notes of strawberry, raspberry, red berries and a rich toasted spice.

The vines for this wine are grown on a limestone gravel and moraine debris mix in the vineyards of Appiano and Caldaro. The grapes are harvested by hand in mid September. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel and then the wine is aged in large wooden casks.

St Michael Eppan

• Founded in 1907 at the doorstep of the Dolomites in the region of Appiano. St Michael Eppan is one of several wine co-operatives formed as a response to the hard times suffered by the region in the 19th century. In 1909 a winery was built in the style of Art Nouveau and Eppan began to reach out to local winemakers and over the 20th century they grew rapidly. Today they work with 320 winemaking families in the Appiano region, some families operating as little as an acre of land. Chief Winemaker Hans Terzer has a focus on white wines but produces wines of all different styles and ensures that each parcel of land produces only the grapes best suited to their unique terroir.

ABV: 13.5%
