Schätzel – Niersteiner Riesling Kabinett

Appearance

• A shimmering light golden colour in the glass.

Nose

• On the nose this expressive wine features aromas of honey blossom, green apple skin, pink lady apples, pineapple, wet stone and a light smoke.

Taste

• The palate is off dry with a touch of lime zest, pink grapefruit and green apple, sea salt and gun powder.

This Riesling comes from Schätzel’s ‘Premier Cru’ vineyard on the best steep slopes grown in 100% red slate soil. The grapes are crushed by foot, cold pressed and fermented in old oak barrels with wild yeast. The wine is aged for 12 months in barrel.

• The Schätzel family have been producing wine in the Rheinhessen since 1350. For over 650 years the family have been producing wines that perfectly represent the unique terroir of their vineyards. Most of their plots feature a rare red shale on steep slopes that lend all their wines a distinct minerality. Caroline and Kai Schätzel took charge of the winery in 2008 and began to dedicate their work around the slow, natural style of Bio-dynamic winemaking.
