Penfolds – Bin 51 Riesling

Appearance

• A pale straw with golden reflections in the glass.

Nose

• On the nose this wine invites with aromas of lemon citrus, green apple skin and lifted white floral notes.

Taste

• The palate is crisp and zesty with decent lemon citrus acidity, a mix of orchard and stone fruit, all wrapped around a flinty mineral backbone.

The Bin 51 Riesling is designed to be a pure expression of the variety with minimal intervention in the vineyard or winery. The grapes are harvested in early Autumn, pressed and then the juice fermented in stainless steel to maintain fruit purity and freshness. These Rieslings are designed to cellar well for decades and mature perfectly with age.

Penfolds

• Penfolds is one of the most recognisable wine names, not just in Australia, but around the world. Penfolds was officially established by Dr Christopher and Mary Penfolds at Magill Estate. Mary took a major role in running the winery during the first few decades as her husband was busy with his medical practice. After Dr Christophers death, Mary took full control of the winery and saw some of the biggest years of expansion. When Mary retired in 1884, she ceded management to her daughter Georgia. By 1907, Penfolds was Australia’s largest winery. The biggest breakthrough for Penfold was their Grange or Bin range, A set of single variety wines designed to age particularly well and named after the storage bin in which the bottles were cellared.
