Penfolds – Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz with Snorkel Gift Box

Appearance

• A glossy, dark red with purple highlights.

Nose

• The nose brings aromas of mahogany, cigar box, sweet oak spices, summer berries, cranberry, red currant and fresh pastries.

Taste

• The palate is full bodied and smooth with flavours of cocoa, sourdough, plum, blackberry, mulberry and cherries.

The Bin 389 used to be referred to as the ‘Baby Grange’ as many of the wines were matured in the barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange wines. The grapes are taken from all across Penfolds many Australian estates. Once fermented the wine spends 12 months aging in American oak.

Penfolds

• Penfolds is one of the most recognisable wine names, not just in Australia, but around the world. Penfolds was officially established by Dr Christopher and Mary Penfolds at Magill Estate. Mary took a major role in running the winery during the first few decades as her husband was busy with his medical practice. After Dr Christophers death, Mary took full control of the winery and saw some of the biggest years of expansion. When Mary retired in 1884, she ceded management to her daughter Georgia. By 1907, Penfolds was Australia’s largest winery. The biggest breakthrough for Penfold was their Grange or Bin range, A set of single variety wines designed to age particularly well and named after the storage bin in which the bottles were cellared.
