Lanzerac Wine Estate, home to the world’s first bottled Pinotage and one of the oldest heritage farms in the Western Cape dating back to 1692, has been cultivating award-winning wines for decades. Nestled in the Jonkershoek Valley between the majestic Stellenbosch mountains, this historic Estate’s rich winemaking history can be traced back to the early 1900s, when the first Lanzerac wine was bottled from grapes harvested on the farm. Since then, Lanzerac Wine Estate has cemented itself as a distinguished wine producer with a commitment to superior quality wines both internationally and locally.
Lanzerac Chenin Blanc is packed with stone fruit flavours of apricot and peach supported by ripe pineapple on the mid-palate. 22% Oak maturation ensures a soft creamy lingering finish. Wonderful with toasted brioche, scallops, roasted root vegetables or brie.
It’s almost frightening how consistently good the Lanzerac premium range is, I’ve yet to have a bad bottle. The Chenin, in particular, is a great intro to SA’s most widely planted white varietal, with the characteristic quince note prevalent, and some pineapple.

Chenin blanc is generally not one of those grapes that people ooh and ah over. This is a great shame considering that it has one of the most varied expressions of the white grape varietals. One from the excellent Jonkerschoek collection by Lanzerac, this Chenin is fruity and well-balanced with a full, rounded body and texture. Tropical fruit such as pineapple, melon and baked yellow apple. Pear and stonefruit hold up their end of the bargain and a lovely medium acidity stops it from feeling overripe and flabby. Subtle honey and minerality just top things off.
