Grapes from the Jackman vineyard are hand sorted in the winery to ensure only the best fruit is pressed. Vines of 35 years and older are grown in the southern reaches of Barossa Valley on sandy soils. Once fermented, the wine ages for a minimum of 24 months in oak barrel before release. The Jackman’s Vineyard was planted in the 1960’s by Arthur Jackman, a WWII paratrooper, boxer and butcher who gifted the vineyard to Langmeil following his retirement.

Langmeil Winery

  • The story of Langmeil dates back to 1838 when Christian Auricht migrated with his family from Prussia in search of religious freedom. Christian planted a vineyard of Shiraz in 1843, today these same vines survive and are believed to be the oldest surviving Shiraz vineyard in the world. The family continued to operate the vineyard until the collapse of the Australian wine industry in the 1980’s. The Linder family now run the winery and have become world renowned for their premium and outstanding examples of Barrosa wine.
