Eirados, a label affiliated with Quinta Santa Eufemia, stems from a lineage of port producers spanning five generations. The family’s presence in this region dates back to the 17th Century. Nestled on the left bank of the Douro River, boasting more than 50 hectares of vineyards, they persist in the traditional craft of port production.

Located in the Douro region of Baixo and Cima Corgo on the left side of the river Douro at an altitude about 300m above sea level, the estate continues to be managed by the Carvalho family, with Eirados being one of the oldest vineyards of the Quinta.

The Eirados Touriga Nacional presents a delightful floral bouquet on the nose, offering an elegant and balanced palate experience characterized by smooth tannins that linger on the finish. This wine is exclusively crafted from 100% Touriga Nacional grapes.

Alcohol – 14% ABV

Joe’s Judgements

Delicious portuguese Douro reds are creeping their way over to us and we can now take advantage of fantastic quality wines at great prices. Most wines are blends of indigenous Portuguese grapes, so they struggle to find a place in the public conciousness. It doesn’t help that the varieties aren’t prominently displayed on the label, so consumers struggle to relate with the wines.

The most prominent of the grape varieties in Portugal is Touriga Nacional, found in pretty much all Port fortified wines. Its unusual to find a single varietal wine of this and this is an excellent example of what it contributes to blends. Eirados Touriga Nacional has gorgeous aromas of wild berries (blackberry and raspberry), luscious plum and floral violet notes. On the palate the tannins display remarkable balance, with excellent structure showing real promise for aging potential. Despite the intensity, they’re nicely integrated. A great full-bodied mouthfeel ending in a lengthy finish. Lovely spicy notes begin to show themself once the wine opens up.

Does fantastically with aeration, give it a good hour. Softens up very nicely. Fantastic on its own or paired with rich beef, lamb or spiced vegetable stews.
