Dog Point Vineyard – Section 94 Sauvignon Blanc

Appearance

• Pale straw yellow in the glass with a light golden coming in from age.

Nose

• On the nose this wine is remarkably complex with notes of white peach, golden grapefruit, lychee, lemon zest and a touch of smoke.

Taste

• The palate is vibrant with acidity that is balanced by a creamy texture and flavours of white peach, nectarine, vanilla bean and toasty oak.

Whole grape bunches from the best single vineyard of Dog Point with an average vine age of 34 years. Whole bunches are handpicked and then pressed and settled in stainless stell for 24 hours. The juice is fermented and aged in old French Oak barrel. Thes wines are held back and only released when they are at their peak.

Dog Point Vineyards

• Dog point is New Zealand’s largest certified organic winery. They are a family-owned vineyard that has been operating since the late 1970’s. Ivan and Margaret Sutherland were one of the earliest pioneers to plant the now famous Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Ivan met with James Healy during this time and helped with setting up the Cloudy Bay Brand. The name Dog Point is a nod to the early European settlements in Marlborough that were mainly set up to farm sheep, in those days the lack of fencing lead to the breading of shepherd dogs that would roam the landscape. Some dogs would wonder off and go feral, breading in the area later called Dog Point. Now the Vineyard hosts a more friendly pack of dogs to greet their guests.
