Vines grown on clay rich loamy soils in Marlborough, with many dating back to 1983. The grapes for this Pinot Noir were hand harvested and chilled overnight before a second-hand selection ensuring only the best grapes are used. The juice is fermented in stainless steel, open top fermenters with wild indigenous yeast. The wine is then pressed into French oak barrels for 3 weeks before bottling.
Dog Point Vineyards
- Dog point is New Zealand’s largest certified organic winery. They are a family-owned vineyard that has been operating since the late 1970’s. Ivan and Margaret Sutherland were one of the earliest pioneers to plant the now famous Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Ivan met with James Healy during this time and helped with setting up the Cloudy Bay Brand. The name Dog Point is a nod to the early European settlements in Marlborough that were mainly set up to farm sheep, in those days the lack of fencing lead to the breading of shepherd dogs that would roam the landscape. Some dogs would wonder off and go feral, breading in the area later called Dog Point. Now the Vineyard hosts a more friendly pack of dogs to greet their guests.
