Château Cissac – Haut-Medoc Cru Bourgeois

Appearance

• A strong garnet coloured wine with tints of violet.

Nose

• The aroma is a complex bouquet of bramble berries, cedarwood, clove, pepper, cinnamon, leather and vanilla.

Taste

• On the palate this wine is medium bodied with supple tannins and a balanced base layer of acidity. Flavours of stewed dark berries, toasted spices and leather linger from start to finish.

Being a Cru Bourgeois wine means that this is a recognised classification of high-quality wine not included in the 1855 classification. Simply put, this Cru allows for high quality Bordeaux at an excellent value. Fermentation was split between stainless steel vats and oak barrels to suit each grape variety. The wine was then aged for 16 months in oak casks, 30% of which was new French oak.

Château Cissac

• The Chateau was purchased in 1895 by lawyer Jacques Mondon who spent most of his time working in the town of Pauillac. Over the years he planted a small number of vines but mostly used the estate as a place to relax. In 1940, Louis Vialard inherited the property from his grandparents and began a massive effort to restore the estate and its vines, he is credited as being solely responsible for the estates rise in reputation. Currently Cissac is run by Louis’ daughter Danielle and granddaughter Marie.
