Babylon’s Peak – Chenin Blanc

Appearance

• A pale golden straw-coloured wine.

Nose

• On the aroma are tropical notes of guava, lychee and passion fruit with a touch of white florals.

Taste

• The palate is extremely juicy and fruit with tropical fruits giving way to lifted white florals and a touch of dry minerality.

The grapes for this wine are planted on granite rich, high-altitude vineyards. When picked the grapes are pressed and only free run juice is used for fermentation. The wine spends a short period on lees to enhance its body and texture.

Babylon’s Peak

• The Basson family have been farming the slopes of Paardeberg mountain since 1919. Four generations have tended to the vines before Stephan Basson founded the commercial name Babylon’s Peak Winery. The name comes from a local term ‘Babylonstoren’ or ‘The Tower of Babylon’, a phrase used to describe the tall Granite peak on which the farm is situated.
